The same thoughts that kept Deeneaus Polk awake at night as his mother was returning home late from her shift as a janitor at Ocean Springs Hospital, thinking about nothing except leaving Mississippi, are now the ones potentially driving the future of the Magnolia state.
Last month, Polk, 28, became the first Mississippian to be selected for an exclusive German Chancellor Fellowship. Polk will live in Bonn, Germany, for a year, working with a workforce development institute to contextualize the country’s economic success for a unique approach to enhance Mississippi’s own model.
